aboutWhen it comes to health, the primary individuals always at risk are the children and the seniors. Children, because they are unable to care for themselves and that their immune system is still developing. Seniors, because their bodies are starting to deteriorate and are unable to do what it needs to get done. Nevertheless, it is said that there are more effects of allergies on children as they are just starting out in life.

Allergic rhinitis is one of the most common chronic diseases of childhood. It affects up to 40% of all the children and its symptoms usually include nasal congestion, sneezing, runny nose, postnasal drip, itchy eyes, and itchy nose. Such symptoms may not be life-threatening but it could make the child miserable and could also affect many aspects of their lives.

Allergies in America Survey studied more than 35,000 households within the United States and tried to see some of the common symptoms of allergies, effects of medications on allergy symptoms, and effects of allergies on quality of life.

Kids have varied experiences when it comes to allergic rhinitis symptoms. Others would claim that it’s tolerable while there are those that would consider it most bothersome. Nasal congestion is considered to be the most bothersome symptom to date and it too was reported being the worst symptom more than twice as often as the next worst symptom (headaches). Other symptoms near the top of the list included postnasal drip, itchy eyes, dry cough, and runny nose.

Nasal congestion is expected to be treated through prescription nasal sprays and oral histamines.

It has been reported that children become less likely to be full of energy, full of life, as well as happy whenever allergies are affecting them. Children with allergies were also discovered to have a reduction in their school productivity with 30%.

These are only a few of the many effects of allergies found in children. Being parents/adults, it is your duty to ensure that the kids do not suffer even more particularly when their allergies start to set in. It is also a recommendation to have the necessary treatment in order to treat the allergy as soon as possible. No one wants to be confined in the comforts of home or in the hospital especially when there is so much to get done.

Allergies may be here to stay. The only thing to do here is to make sure that children enjoy their lives. If it means bringing them to the physician whenever their allergies kick in, and then do it. Life is too short to delve in these uncomfortable times.
